#20BooksofSummer 2018

Not usually one who joins in with memes, challenges and the like I spotted this one devised by Cathy at 746Books and took part last year and in 2016. You can see how I got on here and here.

Cathy is hoping to read 20 books between 1 June and 3 September, meaning she has the mammoth task of reading about 7 books a month. You can read about the challenge on Cathy’s excellent blog here.

I think I’m doomed to failure before I start but I need to make a dent in the TBR and this challenge gives me the push I need. I’ve selected 15 books and I’m allowing myself 5 wildcards so that I can choose my read as my fickle taste dictates. I may swap some of these out if I change my mind or find I can’t read them. I may even swap a lengthy book for a shorter one if I’m running out of time. Some are books I’ve agreed to review or are future releases, others simply because they caught my eye when I was scanning the TBR. The trouble is, when I was scanning the TBR I found loads I wanted to read straight away.

I’ll be reviewing all of the books I manage to read and I’ll be using the 20 books of Summer logo picture on each one. I’ll also link back to my reviews on here so I can keep track of how many I have read.

Here’s what I’ve picked (I’ll add the wildcard reads as I pick them)…

1. The Lido by Libby Page

You can read my review here.

2. Sticks and Stones by Jo Jakeman

3. The Fortnight in September by R. C. Sheriff

You can read my review here.

7. The Messenger of Athens by Anna Zouroudi

8. Too Close to Breathe by Oliva Kiernan

9. Tory Heaven by Marganita Laski

11. The Colour of Bee Larkham’s Murder by Sarah Harris

12. Shelter by Sarah Franklin

  1. Nicely varied list, Janet. I’ll look forward to seeing what turns up as your wildcards.

Me too Susan. It all depends on what catches my eye. Or possibly what will be quick to read as we get closer to 3 September…:-)

Well done for leaving some wildcard space! I think what all these books have in common are beautiful covers!

They do have lovely covers. I’m looking foward to a lot of them. I may end up failing miserably but I’ll give it a shot 🙂

Good luck with your list and with your summer!
I also have a Thirkell on my list – I thought she might be a good choice one cold, wintry weekend.

A Fortnight in Sept looks delicious.

Thank you. The Fortnight in September is one of the ones I’m looking forward to the most. And I think Thirkell sounds perfect for winter. I hope you enjoy all of your choices 🙂

Wildcards are a good idea. I’m not joining in this time, but have in the past, and find I am hopeless at sticking to a list once I have made it. The Fortnight in September is wonderful and I finished reading Tory Heaven yesterday. Happy summer reading to you.

Thanks Ali. I’m hopeless at a list so this will probably change, though I’ll keep the Persephone ones on there.

I’ll keep a look out for what you choose to read. I may not read all 20 but I’ll give it a shot. It’s motivation 🙂

I’m particularly looking forward to those, though I may have to swap the Thirkell for another of hers as I’m also doing A Century of Books and I’ve already ticked off 1938…
